New Ideas

Johnny Lucus

I ran across Johnny Lucas on flickr and I really liked his work. He has the ability to get the right color in his work to really bring the most out of his pictures. He also has a large array of different types of photographs, from landscapes to skateboard photos. I'd like to achieve his work with color in my photo editing.

Old Work

This is a picture I took last term during a project where we had to take 150 pictures of anything. As I was walking around I ran across this stencil on the bridge and really liked the randomness of it being there, also how the red popped out at me, because there is no other color on the bridge. I snapped a few photos and went on. When I was going though all of the pictures this one stood out the most to me. I like how the sunlight fades away the colors but the shadow going though brings them out. I also feel that the shadow going at that angle works well because it draws your eyes from one corner across the image.
When it comes to editing I didn’t do much to this photo. I cropped it down a bit so the mushroom would fallow the rule of thirds. Then I did a little correction to the lighting to get the right colors.
I think this image is a good representation of my work, at this point I just take pictures of things I like, I don’t really have a theme or anything. If I were to go into a theme I think capturing graffiti would interest me, I love how it never belongs where it is and almost always is colorful and stands out.
